Having a Life & Being Idle
THIS SUMMER, COME HOME TO WARWICK BROADHEAD
Warwick Broadhead presents
HAVING A LIFE AND BEING IDLE
Written and Performed by Warwick Broadhead.
Directed by Nick Blake.
Warwick Broadhead is delighted to open public bookings for his splendid new work Having a Life and Being Idle.
Having a Life and Being Idle is a dynamic performance lecture that showcases Broadhead’s theatrical brilliance and diverse repertoire. His posse of lively characters, imaginative narrative and enchanting rituals transports audiences into an idyll where being idle is honoured amidst the busyness of life.
“This show will have you spellbound” – Fiona MacBride, Gulf News
A master in the art of storytelling, Broadhead draws on an ancient fable to weave an ingenious tale that takes many tangents into the fascinating and surreal. Combining ritual, slapstick, philosophy, music and dance Broadhead gloriously transforms into a teacher, Japanese Tea ceremony master, a tortoise, a hare and The Great Pretender for this humorous and captivating journey that questions the ideology of modern life.
Warwick Broadhead has been a major feature of the NZ theatrical landscape for the past 30 years. His professional career has seen him produce over 60 shows … still counting. Hundreds of people in New Zealand have been inspired by, acted in, or helped on one of Warwick's visual theatrical extravaganzas staged in forests, railway stations, churches, and the out of the ordinary.
"Warwick Broadhead, theatrical maestro, is unabashedly outrageous and often very moving.” - Peter Calder, NZ Herald.
The eccentric charm and unorthodox character of Warwick Broadhead has attracted many loyal audiences and supporters over the span of his long standing career. In 2008, Warwick gained the attention of a national audience when the acclaimed docu/drama Rubbings of a Live Man made its premiere
at the NZ International Film Festival. Directed by Florian Habicht this film garnered excellent reviews and has been accepted by international film festivals including Toronto, Dublin and Sydney.
Having a Life and Being Idle has been in development for the past two years and was first presented at the Tivoli Book Shop on Waiheke Island earlier this year. The show has since been furthered developed and re-directed by Nick Drake of Dramadillo fame, before being restaged in Waiheke in October 2009.
